The Harvard Lions Club, in honor of Edna E. Wittmus, wife of Lion Arnold Wittmus, has made a memorial donation of $100.00 to the Melvin Jones Fellowship in her name:
Melvin Jones is the founding father of Lions Clubs International…the men and women who gather together to serve those in need within their local communities, their nation, and the world. It all began on June 7th, 1917…100 years ago when Melvin Jones came up with a plan to help his friends, who were successful Chicago businessmen, make a difference by serving their community. This began what is known today as Lions Clubs International. It was under his dynamic leadership that Lions became the successful organization that they have been and still are serving the world over.
This is the Centennial Anniversary of Lions Clubs International. It is also the 75th Anniversary of the Harvard Lions Club. Lion Arnold Wittmus, with wife Edna supporting him during his Lions years, made a significant contribution to Harvard Lions by serving as Club President, Club Secretary, and eventually went on to serve as District Governor in 1979 to 1980. Under his leadership, he brought our club to new heights.
In 1997, together Arnold and Edna attended the Lions International Convention and Parade in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The support that Edna gave Arnold to become the Lion he was is appreciated by our club even today.
